Dr. Cobelli’s lifelong passion for animals began in childhood, when she eagerly persuaded her family to welcome pets into their home. That early love ultimately led her to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, where she pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She also earned a master’s degree in physiology with a focus in neurophysiology, blending a deep scientific curiosity with a calling to care for animals and the people who love them.
Throughout her career, Dr. Cobelli has been guided by the lessons of an early mentor, a talented surgeon and clinician who operated an AAHA-accredited hospital and emphasized exceptional standards in medicine, surgery, cleanliness, and patient care. Those experiences shaped her professional philosophy and inspired Quarry Ridge Animal Hospital’s longstanding commitment to AAHA accreditation and high-quality veterinary medicine from its very beginning.
As Medical Director, Dr. Cobelli believes that outstanding veterinary care is built on compassion, communication, and teamwork. She is passionate about creating an environment where every team member is respected and valued, knowing that a supportive and harmonious culture ultimately benefits both pets and their families. She often says that the most important part of practicing medicine is listening carefully to both the patient and the client. “Owners know their pets,” she explains, and understanding their observations is essential to providing the best care possible.
Dr. Cobelli’s clinical interests include surgery and dentistry, with a particular love for abdominal surgeries and emergency procedures. She thrives in moments when the hospital team comes together seamlessly during emergencies, watching every department unite with focus, compassion, and professionalism to help a patient in need.
In addition to her work at Quarry Ridge, Dr. Cobelli serves as the Regional Coordinator for the Connecticut State Animal Response Team (CTSART). She holds federal training credentials in ICS, CERT, and SART programs and has deployed to disasters both in Connecticut and across the country. She now dedicates significant time to training volunteers in emergency animal sheltering and disaster response, continuing her lifelong commitment to animal welfare and community service.
Dr. Cobelli is known for her honesty, sincerity, and unwavering dedication to her patients. She believes veterinary medicine is not simply a profession, but a calling that stays with veterinarians long after the workday ends. “We take it home with us,” she says. “We think about it, research it, and work tirelessly to find answers.”
As she begins easing into retirement after more than 40 years in practice, Dr. Cobelli is embracing hobbies she previously only had time to explore, including watercolor painting and guitar. She treasures time spent with her grandchildren and hopes to inspire in them the same compassion, respect for others, and love of animals that have guided her own life.
One quote has long reflected Dr. Cobelli’s philosophy:
“All that we love deeply becomes part of us.” — Helen Keller
For Dr. Cobelli, that love is woven into every part of Quarry Ridge Animal Hospital. She remains deeply proud of the caring culture, integrity, and commitment to excellence that continue to define the hospital today. Her legacy is one of compassion, leadership, and a profound dedication to both animals and the people who care for them.
